In Cape Cod car accident lawyer news, there was a severe head-on car crash this week in which resulted in a MedFlight evacuation and the closure of Route 6.
“It’s nasty”
This was the description offered by Provincetown Police Chief Jeff Jaran regarding a two vehicle accident on the Truro-Provincetown line.
The crash was severe enough to require one of the victims to be transported by MedFilght to a Boston hospital. Another victim, with presumably less serious injuries, was reportedly taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
The accident occurred on November 1, 2012 at 12:01PM according to officials when an eastbound Subaru crossed the median of Route 6 and collided with an older model Mercedes which was traveling on the westbound side. The Subaru then skidded off the road and crashed into the woods along the highway.
The occupant of the Subaru, who was the victim flown to Boston, was violently ejected from the vehicle. There is no word on the condition of either of the victims at present time, or on whether speed or alcohol were factors in the incident.

Eastern End of Route 6 on Cape Cod Has a Ways to Go
Clearly there are still concerns over traffic flow and safety along Route 6 on Cape Cod. According to the Cape Cod Commission’s Route 6 Safety & Traffic Flow Safety study of 2004, the crash rate along Route 6 in Eastham was nearly triple that of the rate along Route 6 for the rest of the Cape.
There have been many suggestions as how to improve the highway and make it safer. For instance, widening lanes, adding additional lanes, or Jersey barriers have been offered as potential solutions.
Presently, there are no public plans to add other safety measures to Route 6. Officials have cited budgetary as well as environmental reasons as obstacles to making these improvements.
Though it is unlikely that the danger of driving can be completely eliminated, based on the statistics there is room for improvement along this notoriously treacherous section of Cape Cod.
